Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a diagnostic process that allows in an overall way to look at the problems of the elderly, not limited to the diagnose and treatment of diseases that patients go to the hospital or outpatient care, but through an assessment in the area of physical health, mental state, emotional and social – environmental status allows to identify often complex health problems, optimize treatment and planning further care. For this purpose a number of useful tests and scales are used. Knowledge of CGA by primary care doctors and internists may considerably facilitate proper care for the growing number of elderly patients. In the article issues related to the assessment of nutritional status and trophic skin changes, emotional, cognitive and social assessment have been described.
