Hypertension is one of the most prevalent risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. It is estimated that more than 10 million of Poles are hypertensive and only 30 % of patients is treated effectively. Among important causes of poor blood pressure control is lack of patients adherence. Lack of adherence is a result of limited visit time, low level of health education and lack of drug reimbursement. Lack of adherence is also a result of not using of hypotensive drugs combination in one pill. It was found that fixed dose combination improved adherence as compared with single pills combination. Frequently used fixed dose combinations consists of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and calcium channel blockers or diuretics. Their effectiveness was evidenced in some controlled, randomized trials.
