For several years fluorine and preventive vaccinations have been wrongly associated with threats to health and life of the population. In the time of common access to the Internet, numerous articles appear online that are not supported by scientific research, but cause fear of using fluorine compounds in the dental caries prophylaxis. An increasing number of people are afraid of fluorine toxicity. In the last few decades, many scientific studies have unequivocally demonstrated that the only diseases caused by excessive supply of fluoride in drinking water are enamel fluorosis or, in extreme cases, skeletal fluorosis. Thus, it is very important to comply with the recommendations on fluoride concentration in drinking water, and to adjust the intake of food products that contain increased amounts of fluorine. In addition, dentists should adhere to the recommended doses of fluoride and professional preventive dental procedures. It is necessary to continuously promote the use of fluoride toothpastes from an early age due to their cariostatic and bactericidal effect, which has been scientifically confirmed. There is also a strong need to conduct further research on the effect of fluorine compounds on the human body.
